John picked me up from home prompt, introduced himself then explained that I needed to do a quick eye test by reading the registration number of a car at a distance. After I had read and signed the paperwork. He then showed me how to drive around a small circuit in a car park. We swapped places and I had a go, it was a great feeling to do it myself.
After some practice, I felt confident and we took our first drive on the road with myself at the wheel. I was nervous but John was there with the dual controls should they be needed, he was very supportive with his instruction, with his advice and was very patient.
Next came the small quiet back roads just to get me used to the feel of the car and other traffic, we did some corners, a roundabout and some junctions.
A few lessons later I was actually driving the car to Peterborough so that I could learn some of the test routes. With John's help and professional guidance I was dealing with heavier traffic, buses and we even did a turn in the road.
Some time passed spent on developing my skills, then we were headed for Peterborough City Centre. It was quite interesting and very satisfying that not only could I  keep up with the other road users, but I could drive safely and confidently, something that John is very good at teaching.
We spent some time developing my skills and then we were heading for a straight row of 5’s indicating I’m close to test level. I haven’t taken my test yet. I will update you when I do. This is how I am learning to drive, enjoy! Clive Jackson  De-Novo student.
